The first stage...labor and delivery

Labor began about 7pm Christmas Day, and so Steve and I sat down to play back gammon to pass the early time (which only lasted til about midnight) While pregnant, I started to beat Steve consistently (he always won before that), but now that I was carrying his daughter, I was winning! Needless to say, since labor began, and even now...he is back to winning! Oh, well, 9 months of being a winner sure was fun!

We tried to have a waterbirth at home, this is the tub in which I labored for hours and hours and hours and....you get the picture. :) Steve was a WONDERFUL support and help to me! Our teamwork was amazing, and I felt even closer to him as the time kept passing.

When it became clear to all of us, that Amelia was not going to be born at home, we smoothly made our way to the nearest hospital. We had an incredible God-send of a doctor, and this picture is just before surgery. We were confident in the direction we needed to go, and sure of God's presence, and very excited to see and hold Amelia!

Out she came with a classic frown on her brow, like, who turned on all the lights and the AC? Who are all these people and why am I being pulled out of here? She was full of life and personality from the very beginning, and now we would have her in our arms...after a little clean-up and stitch-up for mom of course.

Some baby showers...and an artistic addition to the nursery. We are ready for her arrival, and hoping it is very soon! Hopefully the next post will bring pictures of our baby girl in our arms and not in my tummy.

Another fun thing, Steve's co-workers had a shower/luncheon for us at his work. They really blessed us with their generosity and it was a lovely time.

Slowing down....that's what these last few weeks have felt like. It's funny I thought I was slowing down and growing so much at the beginning! Now, I look back, and think wow, I was hardly showing compared to now! Not to mention that I am up to 2 naps a day and sometimes 1 activity. I think it is all preparation for baby girl.

We mostly finished her room, just a few finishing touches for me to complete. Steve picked out the paint colors and we LOVE it! It's like the hundred-acre wood in our home, we like to sit in here just for fun!

Sorry we have been out of touch....faltering internet connections, and we aren't even out of the country! Well, pre-baby, we have welcomed another member to our home....we thought it would be good baby practice.

All else is well...baby and mama moving right along, just into the 29th week now! closer every day.

It's a GIRL!!!!

Well...they are 90% certain, which means, if for some crazy reason, a boy is delivered, just remember that we told you 90%. :)

I know this isn't an easy picture to see since it's been scanned and uploaded now, but, it's the thought. :) We were THRILLED to be able to watch our little girl somersaulting and dancing around for a few minutes. To this point, all is well, we are both healthy and moving right along toward a December due date.

feeling good

Well...i think i've finally made it out of the "morning sickness" phase....it's been a joyous almost 2 weeks without waking up and running to the bathroom or just the bucket. Yes, it seems I have entered the wonderful phase of the 2nd trimester. :)

We are in the 20th week now, looking forward to an ultrasound this week or next, and then we will tell you all if this baby buller is a boy or a girl...anyone have any guesses? feel free to post them.

i am in the "nesting phase" of trying to finish up some projects that have been sitting around since before i even left for Turkey 6 years ago! I was afraid if i didn't do it now, it might be another 18 years! :)

we just had a wonderful week with our friends the Stuarts...Liz and I are both pregnant, so we spent our week napping, eating and chatting.

Chloe looks like she wanted to get away from this stranger w/ no hair. :)

the sickest i've been yet

Who knew that pregnancy would entail so much upset and commotion for one's own body? I guess I had some whimsical ideas about loving pregnancy and that I would always enjoy and marvel at pregnancy if ever I were to conceive. I am still marveling, who couldn't...what an awesome miracle of God that an entire new human being is growing inside of my womb...but enjoyment, I still have yet to experience. I did have a couple nicer weeks, still accompanied with morning throw-ups, but this past week, I came down with food poisoning that still has left me reeling, and I can hands down say this has been the hardest and most discouraging week yet. BUT, we are almost halfway thru, their is a precious light at the end of this long tunnel. And that precious gift will be worth all the vomit. Many tell me I will forget; and though I know when I hold and see our little one that grace will wipe away the tinge of the suffering I have endured, I do not think I will forget this pregnancy, nor want to, really. Suffering produces value, and the most valuable things are the things most worth suffering for.
